Pantone Color of the Year Marsala—4 Rooms, 4 Ways!

We’re still swooning over Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year Marsala. So, naturally, we’re searching high and low for ways to tie the rich yet soft burgundy into all areas of the home. It’s no surprise that we’re starting with our own mats!
We, too, have been drawn to rich red and purple undertones lately and as a result, many of our newest colorways have hints of earthy Marsala. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute says it better than we can, “Nurturing and fulfilling, Marsala is a natural fit for the kitchen and dining room…universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.” We could not agree more.
Color is the finishing design touch that truly ‘MAT-ters’ (see what we did there?)—it’s what makes your house your home! No matter what draws you to Marsala, and no matter your personal style, be it eclectic and worldly, vintage, modern or traditional, there are infinite ways to decorate your home with the qualities we love about Marsala—it’s lustrous undertones of reds, earthy browns, purple, and burgundy blend beautifully with a wide range of color palettes and styles fitting to your home.
Yes, we know, purple is not always an easy one to pull off! Which is why we’ve taken each of our colorways which most closely resemble Marsala doppelgangers and envisioned each one in a beautiful space for you! 4 rooms, 4 ways—inspired by Pantone’s Marsala, and paired with found objects and treasures to tie in colors seamlessly. These are just a handful of countless ways to make your interior spaces more bountiful with on-trend colors and design.
The Victorian // for the Living Room
Our Garnet Estates Mat is inspired by the timeless elegance of Garnet. Deep red and burgundy with a hints of Marsala and metallic sheen, we love Garnet for its soft and subtle frosted finish with rich burgundy shining through—like a raw gemstone. We think Garnet fitting for the traditionalist—perhaps someone enthralled with the Victorian era. Couple this color with a balance of dainty neutrals and masculine dark woods and leathers—and your interior will be sure to wow. We suggest placing our 6’x2’ Garnet at the foot of a French style console table.
The Collector // for the Kitchen
The deep yet slightly dusted color of our Burgundy reminds us very much of Marsala! A color fit for the avid collector—someone who finds beauty in age and who falls in love not only with color and objects, but with the unique stories of each of the pieces making the room a whole. We recommend placing our Burgundy 3’x2’ Original WellnessMat at the foot of your (retro) fridge or at the base of your kitchen sink!
The Modernist // for the Office
Sunset is an energizing yet at the same time calming red, inspired by the warmth and vibrancy of the sun’s early evening rays. Perfect for the modernist who loves to add pleasantly surprising pops of color to liven up any room. This is one of our most striking reds in our collections! Our most reddest of reds—we think it’d make the perfect accent for the modern office space, to accompany a standing desk of course! ;) Place our 3’x2’ Sunset at the foot of your standing desk for comfy feet—to take the pain out of work!
The Traveler // for the Bedroom
One of many qualities we love about Marsala is the earthy, eclectic, and worldly tones—it truly resonates with cultures and palettes across the universe. Which is why we see so much of Marsala in our Palm Wood—reminiscent of the sunburnt bark on a seaside tree, a complex red both sturdy and smooth. One step onto our Palm Wood Estates Mat is like a passport into a whole new world…Whether your happy place is lounging along the shores of the Fijian Islands, taking a stroll through a Marrakesh market, or joy riding along the rolling mountain tops of the Pacific Northwest…our Palm Wood has the look, feel, and comfort perfect for the avid traveler. Support the very first step you take every morning—and place our 3’x2’ Palm Wood Mat next to your bedside or in front of your dresser.
