WellnessMats, the anti-fatigue mats used by healthcare and TSA workers and chefs such as Mario Batali, Sara Moulton and Tim Love, was scheduled for a star turn this week on ABC News’ “Made in America Challenge.” Based in Troy, the 15-year-old company is among a handful from Michigan featured in the news segment about furnishing a home with only products made 100 percent by domestic suppliers, an outgrowth of President Obama’s State of the Union address. Touted by the company as medically proven to promote proper circulation and reduce fatigue, WellnessMats may be used in kitchens, bathrooms, and craft and laundry rooms — anywhere one stands. The mats start at $119.95 for a 3- by 2-feet size and are available through Williams-Sonoma and www.wellnessmats.com. ABC News also designed a website showcasing American-made products, including Michigan’s Delfield Refrigerators in Mount Pleasant, Herman Miller chairs in Zeeland, Monroe-based La-Z-Boy chairs, L.J. Gascho Furniture (Amish and Mennonite) in Pigeon and, in the Upper Peninsula, Iverson Snowshoe Co. in Shingleton and Stormy Kromer Clothing in Ironwood.
