Lake Michigan: Chef Mario Batali’s Summer Home Away From Home

Mario Batali loves his home in New York — but everyone needs a Summer escape. During the warmer months, Mario + family pack their bags and move northbound to their Summer stay along Traverse City Bay, Lake Michigan. Besides owning a Summer home on the Great Lake, Mario’s family is also tied to the mitten state through Susan, Mario’s wife and University of Michigan alum.

What first attracted Chef Mario and his wife Susan to Michigan was the beautiful Lake scene. It all started one summer when they stayed on a Lake Michigan beach for a week, then a few summers later for four weeks, then eventually bought a 1920’s fish camp on the lake (installed an Italian style pizza brick oven) and called it a second home!

And besides the water, swimming and scenery, it’s no surprise that a top chef like Mario Batali would be attracted to Michigan’s booming and growing food scene! Here are just a few of Chef Mario Batali’s Michigan (foodie) favorites:
